About Cheese Pizza

By

Cheese pizza has gained immense popularity in the United States. But where did this delicacy come from? Well, sometime around 1889, Queen Margherita and her husband, Umberto I, took a tour to check out her Kingdom of Italy. While traveling through Italy she got to see many people, particularly the peasants, eating a large type of flat bread. Becoming curious, the queen told her guards to bring her some of this Pizza bread. The Queen loved it so much and would have some each time she traveled throug the kingdom, which created some upset within the Court. Because it wasn't considered appropriate for the Queen to eat peasant food.

But regardless of what they thought, the queen adored this bread and chose to take the situation into her own hands. Calling on Chef Rafaelle Esposito to come from his pizza shop to the royal palace, the queen told him to create a selection of different pizzas for her enjoyment.

To honor the queen who was very much loved by her loyal subjects, Chef Rafaelle decided to create a special pizza just for the Queen. He created a Pizza that was topped with tomatoes, Mozzarella Cheese, as well as fresh Basil. This reflected the colors found in the Italian flag: which are red, white, and green.

Cheese Selection for Pizza

Mozzarella is the kind of cheese used to make most cheese pizzas. There are a lot of different types of Mozzarella. Try to locate a store that sells whole milk mozzarella if possible. This is a really nice and creamy flavored cheese. It creates a great pizza. The other more typical kinds of mozzarella that you can get in mainstream grocery stores would be low fat, nonfat and pasteurized mozzarella. These kinds will work also. In recent years, different types of cheese are being combined to make cheese pizza. Examples include cheddar, blue, gorgonzola, provolone, asiago, and more. Goat cheese pizza is also very popular. If you are watching your weight, just remember that the more cheese you use means the more calories in cheese pizza.

This Pizza would taste like crap! Make your own, real sauce for it. Dont use something so plain as tomato puree alone. Play with your sauce, taste it, add to it. Have fun.
