Men's Silk Ties

Silk ties or silk neckties are a great choice to spruce up a man's dress shirt or to complete a suited look. Silk ties commonly come in two different types- woven silk and printed silk. In later years, the preference has leaned in the direction of woven silk over printed silk. However, ties made out of printed silk do seem to be making a comeback and currently consist of about 10% of the entire tie market. In general, a printed tie doesn't have any texture, it is completely smooth in feel. Woven ties, on the other hand, have a certain depth and loft to them that is inherent in the weave of the pattern. In terms of weight, the heavier the silk weight, the better the tie will drap. But if you get a tie that is too heavy, you will end up with a big knot.  If this is the case, then you are better off with a "Four In Hand Knot"

Wool is the best fabric for linings and and does well when exposed to various elements. Poly cotton would be the next best choice.

A tie that has the rear of the tipping crafted from the same silk as the front of tie does would be the best  option. It makes it hang better and have a better finish. This is referred to as a "self-tipped necktie."

In terms of details, look for bar tacks, fabric loops, and neck stitching that is double stitched. Those are good quality indicators. It is good for the weave to have a texture in it because that helps give the look of design depth.

A silk necktie that is bottleneck or half-bottleneck cut will lend itself to a better-looking knot. Classic designs are the most acceptable for business settings.  Examples would be stripes and neats.  Trendier designs are better suited for leisure activities.
