The group Silk is an American R&B band. They were created in Atlanta, Georgia in 1989. They are most well known for their #1 hit single, "Freak Me" from their first album called Lose Control in 1993. The Silk Freak Me video and Silk Freak Me music remain popular today. Another big hit from that album was "Girl U For Me". That song helped the album get to double platinum status. After that, they had success with songs like "I Can Go Deep", "Don't Rush", "Hooked On You" "If You", "We're Calling You" and "Meeting In My Bedroom".

Keith Sweat is the one who discovered Silk music group. Originally, the group was a quintet consisting of Jimmy Gates, Tim Cameron, Gary "Big G" Glenn, Gary "Lil G" Jenkins and Jonathen Rasboro also known as "John John". Elektra Records dropped Silk and Keith Sweat from the label in 2002. Also in 2002, Gary "Lil G" Jenkins abandoned the group to do other things. He made his debut on stage in 2002 playing 'AJ' in the Tyler Perry production "Madea's Family Reunion." He came back on the scene in music in 2007 with his solo album, The Other Side.

Silk More Music!

Down to a quartet after the loss of one member, Silk came out with their fifth album Silktime, using their own music label called Silk Music Group. This album showcased the songs "Silktime", "My Girl", , "More", "Alibi", "Check My Story", "You (The Baby Song)", and also a cover of "Sideshow" by Blue Magic. That song served to reunite them with Keith Sweat, their former mentor. But without Jenkins singing lead vocals, the album did poorly in sales even thought it did appear in the Billboard 200.

In 2006, Silk came out with their sixth album, a cover album on Shanachie Records called Always And Forever. This album included R&B cover songs like , "Always and Forever" by Heatwave, "Adore" by Prince, and Quincy Jones' "Secret Garden". This last song was actually the first and only single from the album. Similar to Silktime, Always and Forever was not a success in terms of sales.

At the end of 2007, Silk reunited with Jenkins and started recording a new album
