The dining room can have a different feel in everyone's home. Some houses have a large dining room that has a nice-sized dining table complete with eight chairs and a china cabinet full of dishes. Some homes, on the other hand, refer to a section of the kitchen as the dining room. But regardless of what kind of dining room you have in your house, a common denominator will be that you have have a table and chairs. Selecting your tables and chairs necessitates having some knowledge about size, type of material and style. There are also some fun options in the marketplace for childrens table and chairs.

Table and Chairs- Size Considerations

Although dining room tables can vary in size dependent on the size and shape of your dining room space, the majority of dining room chairs share a few things in common. The standard dining room table is around thirty inches in height. So, a standard dining room chair is between16-18 inches from the floor to the seat of the chair. This permits around twelve inches from the cushion of the seat to the top of your table which will allow for sufficient leg room.

The chair seat is generally around15 to18 inches deep which will fit almost any size of a person comfortably. The height of the chair back is really a personal preference. But, you will want to keep in mind the ceiling height of your room. A chair that has a really high back placed in a room that has a really low ceiling can look disproportionate. On the other hand, putting a low backed chair into a room that has a 12 foot ceiling will make the chairs look tiny in comparison. Make sure to think about the look and scale of your table and chair set. It isn't a good idea to put delicate bentwood chairs with a solid, mission-style table. In the same way, putting a glass table next to heavier Spanish colonial chairs is probably not a good choice.

Obviously if you looking for children's table and chairs, these proportions will all be scaled down.  But getting kids table and chairs is a fun option at family gatherings.
