Tiffany Lamps
76You probably know a Tiffany lamp shade when you see one. Most Tiffany lamps can be placed in one of seven unique categories. These include: Irregular Upper and Lower Border, Geometric, Favrile, Flowered Cone, Flowered Globe, and Transition to Flowers. The Irregular Upper and Lower Border lamps feature an open crown edge that resembles a tree branch or shrubbery. The Geometric category, which was produced primarily by male craftsman is self-explanatory. Favrile means handcrafted, and this category characterizes the very first lamps made with the Tiffany label. Tiffany’s initials, LCT, later replaced the stamp stating “Favrile”. The craftsman for Tiffany used shapes such as ovals, rectangles, squares, and triangles to create patterns for the lamps. The Transition to Flowers group, is divided into the Flowered Cone and Globe lamps. These lamps feature a natural or botanical design with dragonflies, flowers spiders and their webs, peacock feathers, and butterflies. The main difference between these two subcategories is a difference in the shape of the lamps, whether it is a cone or a globe.

TIffany Lamp History
The history of the Tiffany style lamp began somewhere around 1895. Each of these lamps is produced by a skilled craftsman. These beautiful and intricate pieces were neither machine nor mass produced. Contrary to popular belief, some say it was Clara Driscoll, not Louis Comfort Tiffany, who served as the primary designer of the most valuable and creative lead glass lamps that were produced by the Tiffany Studios. Tiffany’s first commercial endeavor was for an interior design firm located in New York, where he designed windows made out of stained glass.Today, you have a huge selection of beautiful Tiffany lamps to choose from.

Tiffany Lamp Creation
Every tiffany lamp is created from using the Copper Foil method. First, the craftsman draws a pattern for the lamp on a heavy piece of cardboard. Then, a glass color and a number is written on the pattern. After the pattern is drawn and given a label, the craftsman lays the glass over it and traces it. Once that occurs, the pieces of glass can be cut and ground down to the proper shape. Then, the pieces must be cleaned so that the copper foil can be placed around the edges. The copper foil helps the pieces to adhere to each other. After the lamp has been placed in this way, and it is completely sealed, the edges must be soldered together to ensure a firm hold. Finally, after the lamp is soldered it is cleaned once again to enhance its beauty,
Louis Comfort Tiffany
Tiffany lamps have always been beautiful art pieces and a fabulous addition to any home. These two ideas make up the goal of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) which was "to provide good art for American homes". Throughout his life, Tiffany was an interior designer, painter, world traveler, collector, manufacturer, photographer, and gardener. Today, he is frequently viewed as one of the most influential American designers, artists, and craftsmen of the century, and his lamps were and continue to be known throughout the world for their outstanding design and beautiful handcrafted detail. As the elder son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, who founded the legendary silver and jewelry store, Tiffany and Co., Louis decided to pursue his love of the arts rather than continuing in the family tradition. He succeeded rather well with his watercolor and oil pieces during the 1860s and 1870s. It was in the 1880s, however, that he turned his attention towards interior design, where remained until his final days. As previously mentioned, Tiffany wanted to make decorative arts have equal status as fine arts, thereby making overwhelming beauty popular. Tiffany developed an idea to combine bits and pieces of glass remains from the production of his stained glass windows to create beautiful and decorative lamps. As it happened, while lighting the first ever movie theatre, Tiffany joined forces with Thomas Edison, who suggested that they create electric light fixtures together. Soon after, Tiffany began to develop lamps, creating them as miniature versions of his beautiful stained-glass windows, basically turning the idea into a new form of art.
